Chain Reaction is directed by Andrew Davis and stars Keanu Reeves and Morgan Freeman. Reeves plays a machinist on a research team that discovers how to extract hydrogen from water and turn the hydrogen in a limitless form of energy. However, just after making the discovery the lead scientist, Dr. Alistar Barkley, is murdered, files are stolen, and his lab blown up. Reeves is framed for murder and begins running from the law.

Some could easily compare Chain Reaction to The Fugitive simply because the two main characters in the movies are framed for a murder they didn’t commit and viewers watch in suspense as the characters unravel the mystery. While Chain Reaction may share a lot of similarities with The Fugitive, it isn’t as smart. Whereas The Fugitive has a well-developed plot, Chain Reaction lacks some sensibility and the storyline is full of holes. On the flip side, Chain Reaction does offer quite a number of action scenes that include Reeves jumping from an opening draw bridge to a number of chases and escapes.

The acting over-all is good. Reeves fulfils his role well; although it seems to be like nearly every other role he’s had. Freeman, well he’s great no matter what movie he’s in so there’s not much to say there.

If you can throw out sensibility and just go with the flow then you’ll find the movie to be suspenseful. Those who can just go with the flow will greatly enjoy the movie and will find it fun. If you can’t just go with the flow and you must analyze the movie afterwards, you’re better off skipping Chain Reaction and going for another thriller flick.
